What this site stores about you

Almost nothing, and the reasons are set out below — including why a site about a health condition is a site where that matters more than usual.

The short version

This site is made of static pages. There is no account to create, no form to fill in, no newsletter to join and no quiz that profiles you. We do not ask for your name, your email address, your age, your symptoms or anything about your hair, because we have no use for any of it.

Why this matters more here than on a site about, say, cameras: what you read on a page about hair loss says something about your health. Health-adjacent browsing is exactly the kind of data that ends up in advertising profiles, and the simplest way not to leak it is not to collect it.

What the server records

Our hosting keeps ordinary web-server logs — the requested address, the time, an IP address, the browser's user-agent string — as essentially every web server does. They exist so the site can be served and so we can tell a crawler from a person. They are not used to build a profile of you, are not sold, and are not linked to anything else, because there is nothing else to link them to.

Cookies and tracking

This site sets no advertising cookies, runs no ad network, and embeds no social-media pixels, session recorders, heatmaps or A/B testing tools. No third-party script watches you read.

If page-level analytics are ever added, they will be the kind that counts visits without identifying visitors, this page will say so on the day it happens, and it will keep saying so.

Some outbound links are marked partner links. When you follow one, the destination's own systems may set a cookie so that a later purchase is attributed to this site — that is how affiliate tracking works everywhere, and it happens on their side, under their privacy policy, not ours. We never pass anything about you to them: no name, no email, no reading history, because we do not have those things.

Every partner link on this site is marked sponsored nofollow in its HTML, and the page about money lists every programme we use, every one we have refused, and which links currently pay nothing at all. Following a partner link is entirely optional, and none of them is required to read anything here.

Pages here link to regulators, medical societies, journals and company sites so that you can check what we say against the source. Those sites have their own privacy practices, which we do not control. A link from here is not an endorsement of a site's data handling, and clicking one takes you out of this site's reach entirely.

Children

This site is written for adults. It is not directed at children, and nothing here is designed to appeal to them.

Your rights, and the honest version of them

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct or delete personal data a site holds about you. Ours is easy to exercise: write to [email protected] and ask. In practice, the answer will usually be that we hold nothing about you beyond server log entries, because there is no account, no list and no form on this site to have created anything else.

Changes

If this page changes, the change will be described rather than silently applied, and the date will be on it. The current version was written on 24 September 2026.

Written from labels, regulators and published studies, with the read date on every fragile fact. If something here has gone out of date, tell us and it gets fixed.
